Museo Jumex: the history, and a juice fortune turned into art

Across the plaza from the Soumaya, a calm stone building holds one of Latin America's biggest contemporary art collections. Here's what you're looking at, and what to listen for when you get there.

Three stories most visitors miss

1

A juice fortune turned into art

The collection belongs to the Fundación Jumex, created by Eugenio López Alonso, heir to the Jumex juice company. He started collecting contemporary art in the 1990s.

2

Light through the saw-tooth roof

Chipperfield gave the top floor a saw-tooth roof that lets in soft daylight, ideal for showing art without harsh sun.

3

Two museums, two ideas

The Jumex and the Soumaya face each other across the same plaza: one quiet and made of stone, the other a shining silver curve.

TipVisit both museums in one afternoon: they're a minute's walk apart in Nuevo Polanco. With Urban Tales running, the museum's story plays as you reach Plaza Carso.
