Museu do Amanhã: the history, and the museum with moving wings

A white, wing-like building on the water at Praça Mauá, about the future rather than the past. Here's what you're looking at, and what to listen for when you get there.

Three stories most visitors miss

1

Part of the port's revival

The museum opened in 2015 as the centrepiece of Porto Maravilha, the redevelopment of Rio's old port area before the 2016 Olympics.

2

Wings that follow the sun

The long steel 'spines' on the roof move to follow the sun and carry solar panels.

3

Cooled by the bay

Water from Guanabara Bay is used to cool the building before returning to the sea.

TipWalk the waterfront Orla Conde from Praça Mauá to see the building from every side, and look for the giant murals on the port warehouses. With Urban Tales running, the museum's story plays as you reach the square.
